we are planning to begin a ride that Saturday morning at 8am instead of our normal 7am. We will have two rides available. One will be about 20-25 miles for more accomplished riders and one will be under 5 miles and be a family ride to encourage people to get out and get active.
The longer ride will basically take care of itself in our normal fashion, although we will want to be especially careful about the "no drop" part and have someone who will sort of function as our sweeper. It would be good to have an official leader as well. We'll have a definite route planned ahead of time, which is unusual for us, but will make new people feel better that day. I think the lake ride would be good and I can get someone to be at the lake with some gatorade and snacks. Sort of a mini SAG. Any volunteers?
The shorter ride will need a couple of volunteers - one to lead and another to sweep. We'll have snacks and drinks at the end of the ride for everyone. Any volunteers?
Additionally, Ride for Reading will be set up to accept book donations and to give out info about our mission. If Bo will lend us the Hernando Bike banner, we will set up a table to represent HBC too! We've got the opportunity to do a good service for our community and to get even more interest in our sport and our club! Do you want to help?
There is also going to be a mountain bike ride sponsored by Ride for Reading and DeSoto Greenways at Bayou Point that morning for anyone who wants to get off road. Let me know if you are interested in that.
For those who hear me talk about ride for Reading and wonder what I'm talking about, please check www.rideforreading.org and see what's going on. we have started a chapter here in the Memphis metro area and some friends from the DeSoto board of supervisors are trying to get as much support for our mission as possible. Consequently we are giving away books from 10am-2pm at Conger Park in hernando and Latimer Lakes Park in Horn Lake that Saturday. We've got people to man the distributions, but if anyone want to volunteer an hour or two of your time and take your bike and show up looking like a cyclists, you're very welcome to do so. Kids get a kick out of seeing real bicycle people.
If you want more information or want to volunteer for our club ride or for the Ride for Reading stuff, email me at email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org or call me at 901-230-8660.
